Movie Plot

After a complex and turbulent year of seeking asylum in Europe, Lawand tries to put together his surroundings in his new home in Yorkshire, England, lacking any language, communication, or genuine sense of self. Lawand Hamad Amin is an Iraqi-Kurdish youngster who is completely deaf. He and his family fled their home country about eight years ago, ended up in the Calais “jungle,” and were eventually brought to the UK by a disability organization. Edward Lovelace’s touching and insightful video chronicles his story.

What is the Story About? 

Lawand landed in Derby, where he excelled academically at the Royal School for the Deaf. He realized he was not the disruptive underachiever contrary to everyone’s thoughts. But a genuinely brilliant child after receiving a high-tech hearing aid and studying British Sign Language. Moreover, he also developed a new bond with his family. When the Home Office announced that Lawand’s family might be deported, a fight broke out.
