Star Trek Stars Jonathan Frakes and Robert Picardo Reunite in a New Movie
Executive producer Terry Matalas says things may go very differently in Star Trek: Picard’s third and final season.
On Wednesday, Jonathan Frakes made his directorial debut in a feature film, Star Trek: First Contact, by participating in a live commentary and Q&A session.
He announced at the event that he would be returning to Star Trek: Picard’s director’s chair for the second season.
“I’ve been asked, so I’m looking forward to it. I can’t wait to get back to work,”
They Have Been United for Star Trek
Frakes expects to continue directing the new Star Trek series for CBS All Access, stating earlier in April that it has been “a blessing.”
“The directing has been fantastic for me,”
Frakes said,
“When Discovery worked out and then Picard worked out, there will be a new one and another one.”
Matalas said in an interview, “It was not going to be this.”
“Because they did not intend to produce that particular show. ‘Picard’ was the deconstruction of Jean-Luc Picard, and it had a new cast, and there’s nothing wrong with that.”
Plot And Cast of Star Trek
Picard had a different cast for those who started watching the heritage sequel series early on.
Only two characters from season one returned for season three: Voyager favorite Jeri Ryan’s Seven of Nine, who served provisionally on the U.S.S.
Voyager but decided to join the Fenris Rangers because of Starfleet’s rigidity, and Michelle Hurd’s Cmdr. Raffi Musiker, who has turned into a Federation firebrand and outsider Jean-Luc (who she refers to as JL) trusts.
In season three, Seven at last agreed to take a commission, rising to the rank of captain and serving as Captain Liam Shaw’s (Todd Stashwick) first officer on the USS Titan-A. Regretfully, he harbors biases towards the previous Borg.
Work Beyond Star Trek World, A Biltmore Christmas
While both actors are still involved in the Trek universe, they also don’t hesitate to take on new roles outside of it.
This is demonstrated in the upcoming Hallmark film A Biltmore Christmas, which is the only non-Trek project that actor Frakes has scheduled for the near future.
Plot of the Movie “A Biltmore Christmas”
Screenwriter Lucy Hardgrove travels back in time to 1947 to work on the production of the beloved holiday film “His Merry Wife,” thanks to a magical hourglass.
Lucy must put things right or risk permanently changing the future before she can go back to the present.
Frakes, About the Movie “A Biltmore Christmas”
Both actors are secondary to co-leads Kristoffer Polaha and Bethany Joy Lenz in this production.
Still, a lot of fans will surely be curious to watch a holiday film starring the actors that play Riker and the EMH.
Frakes felt the holiday movie would be fun for Trekkies. He was open about the reasons why he thinks fans should pay attention.
He remarked that historically, we haven’t seen a lot of the festive spirit in Trek, he said,
“Gene Roddenberry was a card-carrying atheist, so Christmas was not big on his list of subject matters.
But I think there’s a loyalty to Star Trek, a family loyalty, that would appeal to the Hallmark family brand.
Our ships were all families and these Hallmark stories are always based on family relationships. I think the connection, the dots, are not too distant.”
Frakes And Picardo’s Characters in the Movie
Frakes plays Winston, a worker at the Biltmore Estate, but there is no mention of the role Picardo plays.
Even if you’re not a fan of Hallmark’s typical Countdown to Christmas programming, you can’t pass up the opportunity to see Frakes and Picardo together, even though it has nothing to do with Trek.
Release Date of the Movie “A Biltmore Christmas”
The movie premiered on the Hallmark channel on Sunday, November 26 at 8:00 p.m. EST as a part of the network’s yearly Christmas countdown.
“A Biltmore Christmas” was filmed in January both inside the Biltmore House and on the estate’s grounds.
