Reality Behind Speaking of the Truth: Melissa Got Fired From Upcoming Movie “Scream 7”
Despite leading the previous two profitable editions, Melissa Barrera has been let go from Scream 7’s cast.
Melissa Barrera, the star of the Scream franchise, was dismissed from the seventh installment’s production due to her pro-Palestine position.
Spyglass stated that their
“stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”
Barrera’s Role in the Movie “Scream”
Barrera, who is also well-known for her roles in In the Heights and Vida, featured in the sequel to Scream in 2022 as Sam Carpenter, Jenna Ortega’s Tara’s elder sister, who many new murderers pursue after learning in the first film that she is the daughter of original Ghostface killer Billy Loomis.
The movie’s Turnover due to the Casting of Barrera in “Scream”
Barrera brought generations of the franchise’s cast members together in Scream, a 2022 film that grossed $137.7 million worldwide and contributed to the franchise’s revival.
Barrera featured in Scream VI as well. The film appeared in March and made over $168.9 million at the box office worldwide.
Reason Behind the Dismissal of Barrera from “Scream 7”
As she reflected on her experience growing up in “a colonized country,” the Mexican actress wrote on Instagram,
“Palestine WILL be free.”
The actress says in the post that she has been looking into “information about the Palestinian side for the last two weeks or so” to present her fans with a different perspective from what the “Western media” has been revealing.
The actress expressed her thoughts about the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine barely one month ago, and now there is news. She said on Instagram stories,
“Gaza is being treated like a concentration camp right now.”
What Changes Have Been Made After Firing off Barrera?
Filmmakers Radio Silence are handing off directing duties for Scream VII to Christopher Landon. The writers’ and performers’ strikes had delayed development and prevented the start of filming.
Spyglass is now anticipated to reevaluate its strategies in the wake of Barrera. Distribution for the most recent instalments was handled by Paramount, which is expected to return for the upcoming movie.
Who Will Play the Role of Sam Carpenter in Scream 7?
Barrera’s exit from the project suggests that the crew should work even harder to cast Neve Campbell as everyone’s favorite last girl, Sidney Prescott.
Barrera’s dismissal is not the first notorious casting change the Scream franchise has had in recent years; original final girl and actress Neve Campbell famously turned down a return role for Scream 6 because she felt the salary offer was too low.
Barrera is Getting Punishment Against Freedom of Speech
In recent weeks, Barrera has shared content on the subject regularly. Barrera provides links to donate to Save the Children and Doctors Without Borders in her Instagram bio.
She co-signed an open letter to President Joe Biden from Artists 4 Ceasefire in a post on her Instagram account on October 27.
She was one of several performers, comedians, and musicians who demanded an end to hostilities between Israel and Gaza.
Her caption says:
“We must end the bombing of Gaza, secure the safe release of all hostages, and demand adequate access for humanitarian aid to reach the people that desperately need it,”
As the news is getting popular among the fans and celebrity features, the rage is increasing for the industry. Melissa showed courage and used her right to freedom to speak, but unfortunately, she got punished for it.
Everyone is standing up for Melissa and running a hashtag: #JusticeforMelissa. We also want justice for Melissa and the Palestinians.
